Recent work at Sheffield Park
The alignment of the new loco shed at Sheffield Park meant that the new engine shed road was not connected to the old tram road (which runs past the Above Workshop Facility). The long term plan is to connect the two loco sheds as can be seen from the image to the right. The tape shows the intended line of the new tram road. This work will be split into phases. The first phase, a single 60 foot panel of track, has now been completed and can be used as a loading/unloading area.
The first task was to break out the concrete round the old tram road. The old track could then be removed, new tack laid and, with suitable shuttering, the new road concreted in. Other phases to follow when time and finances permit.
Work also undertaken during this period was the erection of railings on the loading bay at Sheffield Park.
