The Sheppey Light Railway

Colonel Stephens saw an opportunity in the Light Railway Act of 1896 and set about financing and building a number of lines to areas poorly served by public transport. These were mainly reliant on agriculture but Stephens saw a wider opportunity in developing the tripper trade. The line to Leysdown on the Isle of Sheppey, in Kent is was one such and Peter A.
