A celebration with locomotives associated with Brighton Works

Alongside our launch of 32424 ‘Beachy Head’ at the railway, we will holding a special weekend of running over the August Bank Holiday weekend between August 24th to 26th, featuring locomotives associated with the famous railway works.

A special timetable will be in operation throughout the three day event. Keep an eye out on a surprise or two which we announce when we are able to do so!

The locomotives taking part over the three day event will be:

  • 32424 “Beachy Head”: Britain’s newest steam locomotive. LBSCR H2 Marsh Atlantic. The original locomotive was constructed at Brighton Works in 1911, withdrawn and scrapped in 1958. Our new build locomotive now restores a gap in preservation which was sorely missed until now.
  • 34059 “Sir Archibald Sinclair”: Rebuilt Bulleid Pacific, the biggest of our four locomotives to take part in this weekend. Having recently returned to service after a long period out of traffic, this popular express passenger locomotive represents a design which was built at Brighton in 1947.
  • 72 “Fenchurch”: Stroudley A1 “Terrier”, built in 1872, its one of the oldest steam locomotives in the country which is in regular use. It is fitting that the oldest and newest “Brighton” related engines have the chance to work together on our railway.
  • 80151: Riddles 4MT Standard Tank, this class of locomotive represents the final design to be constructed at Brighton Works. (For this event only, 80151 will be running as 80154- the last locomotive to be outshopped from the works in 1957)

Book now to avoid disappointment and be part of our special celebration at The Bluebell Railway!
