Horsted Keynes Platform 5 Temporary Buffer Stops
During Christmas season when normal services are not running, platforms 4 and 5 are not used. Instead, an accessible wheel chair route from platform 5 to platform 4 is provided via a bridge at platform level built across the track. Behind the bridge is a parked the buffet coach which is being used for the Santa Specials. As the end of Platforms 4 and 5 are in constant use for access to the down yard protection is require for the bridge and coach. Therefore, a buffer stop was fitted to enhance safety.
SteamWorks! temporally had three buffer stops fitted across the centre of the shed which are no longer in use. These were constructed by Mike Hopps from old rail taken up during a previous track relay.
We fitted one of these buffer-stops in front of the temporary bridge and a second ten feet behind the coach as train may use the north end as a bay platform.
