News from the Standard 2 Project

Our project to recreate a missing class of locomotive, the BR 2MT Tank.

Work has progressed on the cab; the first area to be completed was the rear balance pipe that runs under the cab floor between the 2 side tanks.

For the cab all remaining panel drawings have now been completed which has allowed the panels to be profiled.  The cab roof has been made in two sections, allowing the curved sides to be formed using a break press.  Work has also started on forming the angle iron, which supports the roof, to shape.

We have now started the assembly of the cab, the first step being fixing the cab side panels to the base frame and side tanks, plus the back panel on the driver’s side.  In addition, as seen in the photo on the right, the bottom runner of the side widows has been installed (the top runners are fixed to the roof section). The fireman’s seat support has also been fitted; the wooden seat has been made but not fitted.

Assembly of the driver’s cupboard and seat has been started.  The leather covered seat and back rest has already been made by our colleagues in the Trim Shop at Horsted Keynes.
