Kids for a Quid

Looking for something to do with the kids?

Come and explore the Sussex countryside at Bluebell Railway – and pay just a quid per kid!

Our popular Kids for a Quid offer runs on selected dates throughout the year, which means you pay just £1 per child (aged 15 and under) when travelling with a full paying adult.

Kids for a Quid is running on these dates in 2020:

  • Sunday 22 August – Friday 28 August (please note our Teddy Bears’ Picnic event will run from 29 – August)
  • Tuesday 1 September – Sunday 6 September
  • October half term from Sunday 24 October – Sunday 1 November

Fun for all the family

Bluebell Railway is a family friendly visitor attraction, with plenty of activities and things to do across the line.

You can hop off at Horsted Keynes, a station you may recognise from Downton Abbey, The Woman in Black and Muppet’s Most Wanted. But the station is not only popular with filmmakers – it also boasts our Carriage and Wagon Workshop, which is opposite the Elephant Van on Platform 5. Inside the Elephant Van you will find soft play activities for younger children.

Then, why not alight at Kingscote? Here you will find our popular outdoor play area – the perfect way to let off steam.

And let’s not forget Sheffield Park, where you can learn the science and stories behind steam in our interactive exhibition SteamWorks! on Platform 1. Set among some of our fabulous collection of locomotives in the running shed, you can get hands-on with interactive displays and even have a go on our Stepney locomotive driving experience!

Then head to Platform 2 and find our extensive museum. Here we tell the story of the railways, and the Bluebell Railway in particular, through a stunning collection of artefacts, display panels and videos. Visitors are invited to pull a signal lever in the Victorian signal box and children can do a quiz and win a badge.

You can find out more about children’s activities at Bluebell Railway here.

Adult tickets cost £17.00 if booked online, or £20.00 if purchased on the day of travel.

You can book your adult tickets online for an advance discount, but pre-booking is not a requirement.

Bluebell Railway Passport

Bluebell Railway is turning 60 years old this year!

To celebrate this special birthday, we are challenging our young visitors to complete 60 things to do and see at Bluebell Railway.

How many stickers or stamps will you collect?

Pick up your Spring, Summer and Autumn Passports throughout the year, and download the Spring Passport now.

Parking

We have free car parks at Horsted Keynes and Sheffield Park.

There are also plenty of Pay & Display car parks available in East Grinstead.

More information about how to get to Bluebell Railway is available here.

East Grinstead Landslip

A landslip at East Grinstead means National Rail trains are unable to run between East Grinstead and Lingfield until further notice. A rail replacement bus service will be operating between these stations.

Passengers wishing to join us at our East Grinstead station via National Rail are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and check the National Rail website for regular updates.
