Boiler lift takes place

On 10 April, as seen in Melvin Frohnsdorff’s photo, ‘Normandy’ was wheeled out of Atlantic House, and its boiler lifted.

Dismantling the locomotive, including lifting out the boiler, is always a key stage in any overhaul; the boiler can now be properly inspected to determine what repairs, beyond the mandatory replacement of boiler tubes, will be required.

Richard Salmon’s photos below, taken on 21 and 27 April, show the frames in Atlantic House, and the boiler in the yard on its trolley.
