Put theory into practice

The Stroudley Room at Horsted Keynes is a purpose-built meeting and training room, equipped with large screens and portable whiteboards. With over 60 square meters of floor space, it can comfortably accommodate 24 people as a classroom or 32 when configured as a lecture theatre. There’s an adjacent kitchen (including a microwave) and full welfare facilities, including showers. The building is accessible and there’s ample car parking. We can organise catering if required.

Our large yard area at Horsted Keynes is adjacent to the new training facilities and offers a wide range of training opportunities. We can support everything from PTS (we have a section of third rail) to small tools to plant operator training to surveying to signalling. Our 11-mile running line, complete with bridges, viaducts, tunnels, embankments, drainage, stations and signalling allows a huge range of training events to be carried out.

The yard is physically separate to the running line, and with dozens of non-running days each year we can offer training opportunities that are rarely available on the National Rail network. We have a lot of space and we’ll consider dedicated facilities for long term partners.

Introducing our Track Induction Garden

Our new Track Induction Garden displays a range of modern track components in a series of short panels, each featuring different rail, sleeper and fixing combinations. Students can see at first hand how wooden, concrete and metal sleepers are attached to flat bottom and bullhead rail. There’s also a range of lineside signs and equipment, allowing students to become familiar with a wide range of trackside features. The Track Induction Garden is located just yards from the training room.

The Track Induction Garden is an ongoing project, with further features planned for later in 2024.

Rail experience days

These events offer attendees a unique opportunity to see how the various elements of a railway – civil and mechanical engineering, operations, signalling and passenger care – come together to deliver a reliable service.

Attendees gain experience of driving, guarding, signal operation, permanent way, operational planning and much more, all in a safe environment and using electro-mechanical equipment that lets you see what is actually going on.

Ideal for students and new starters, our experience days also offer valuable insights for much more experienced staff, especially those whose duties keep them away from the trackside.
