Spring Steam Gala 2026 – a celebration of the Golden Age of Steam.
The Bluebell Railway is delighted to announce the return of its Spring Steam Gala in 2026, promising a spectacular three-day celebration of steam at its very best. The event will showcase an intensive timetable, impressive locomotive line-up, and the unmistakable atmosphere of a classic steam gala.
Across the weekend, visitors can look forward to intensive steam workings, the sight and sound of multiple historic locomotives in action, and numerous photographic opportunities as trains traverse the picturesque Sussex countryside.
Special Guest Locomotives
We are especially pleased to announce the attendance of three outstanding guest locomotives, all subject to availability, each bringing something unique to the 2026 gala.

This versatile and powerful locomotive will have the exciting opportunity to operate alongside our own 73082 Camelot and 34059 Sir Archibald Sinclair, creating memorable and rarely-seen steam combinations.

Recently returned to traffic following restoration, this historic Isle of Wight tank engine offers a rare opportunity to see a unique locomotive operating away from its home line. During the gala, Freshwater may also be paired with our own 72 Fenchurch for a fascinating Southern Railway-inspired double-heading experience.

Representing the Great Western Railway, this striking Saint-class locomotive adds an exciting cross-region element to the gala, providing a contrast to the predominantly Southern and British Railways fleet and offering visitors the chance to see a truly iconic GWR design in action.
A weekend packed with steam action
Alongside the visiting engines, the Spring Steam Gala will feature members of the Bluebell Railway’s own Southern Railway and British Railways fleet, all working together to recreate the sights, sounds, and atmosphere of the steam era.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy:
- A comprehensive timetable of intensive workings
- Multiple photo opportunities across the railway
- The full experience of a traditional steam gala, from station to station
Further details, including the full locomotive roster, operating timetable, and any additional special features, will be released in due course.
Whether you are a seasoned steam enthusiast or visiting the Bluebell Railway for the first time, the Spring Steam Gala 2026 promises an unforgettable weekend celebrating the enduring legacy of steam on Britain’s railways.
